Munster Indiana Real Estate Energized By Panera and Shops

panerabread_ext_facade_by_steve_cardwellFrustrated by traffic snarls on Calumet Ave? Sit tight. It is all for a good cause.

Munster Shops is the code name for the project along Calumet Avenue that has been tying up traffic recently, North of Ridge Rd.

The new mall will be anchored by a new Panera Bread outlet, and joined by a Chipotle Grill, a 5 Guys Hamburgers, and a sub sandwich place.  The restaurants are part of a large retail strip set to energize one of Munster’s favorite retail shopping districts. An old Carpetland store was demolished to make way for the new development, and Munster residents and visitors will certainly welcome the new eateries.

According to developer Bruce Boyer of Boyer Construction, there are also going to be 15 or so mixed use stores and service businesses in the strip, with some leases already signed and others yet to be announced. Infrastructure work has required lane closures on Calumet as telecom crews install new fiber optic cables under the street, hence the frustrating lane closures. There will be plenty of bandwidth required for all of you who surf on your tablets and phones while you munch.

The Panera Bakery is expected to open in late May, with build-out of the other restaurants and  retail shops  ongoing throughout the Summer and Fall . City planners have made this 6 block strip into “restaurant row” joining a number of franchise fast food outlets, your author’s favorite, Edwardos’s Natural Pizza, Cantonese favorite New Moon, Boston Market, legendary Munster Gyros, and another anchor, El Salto at the corner of Ridge and Calumet.

Big Business An Undiscovered Secret In Munster Indiana

Commercial real estate in Munster Indiana is not the first thing you think about here, since mid-to-upscale demographics, residential homes, and great schools are what the city is best know for.

However a quick scan of the commercial property market listings reveal several million square feet of warehouse, light industrial, retail and office space available in Munster Indiana.  Community Hospital, and Hammond Clinic as well as all the supporting  diagnostic labs and medical practices alone,  account for thousands of professional jobs and vast amounts of office and commercial space.

There are a long list of reasons why Munster has become a mini-hub of economic vitality within the Calumet region. Proximity to Illinois, and several different expressways, public transportation corridors, and an educated work force are just a few of the top reasons. And overall, a higher quality of life is another significant reason. That’s why Munster Indiana home stats routinely show a higher value per square foot than homes in many surrounding towns.

If you know any hungry professionals who work in Munster Indiana, and who might be looking for a home that’s close to work; then we should all meet for an introductory lunch at one of these fine new dining establishments to begin your move-up plans.
